Students are not permitted to enrol in a language course below one that they have already successfully completed, except with permission of the language and/or course convenor. Both Japanese and English will be used during classes, so the course is. This may results in a penalty such as reduced grades or failure of the course. It may also benefit working professionals who translate in business or social settings. Students who intentionally misrepresent their language proficiency level may be investigated under the Academic Integrity Rule 2021 as having failed to comply with assessment directions and having sought unfair advantage. Students who are not sure if they need to undertake a language proficiency assessment should seek advice from the course or language convenor. The language being spoken in your home (even if you do not speak it yourself) Travel or living in a country where the language is spoken Being exposed to the language in childhood via a family member or friend Previous study of the language (both formal and informal, for example but not limited to, at school, or, home, or through online activities, etc.) Students with previous “language experience or exposure” are required to undertake a language proficiency assessment to ensure enrolment at the most appropriate level. Students with native speaker proficiency (may include cognate languages and dialects) must review the language proficiency assessment site and contact the CAP Student Centre for appropriate enrolment advice. A few states do not offer a teaching certificate in Japanese. Becoming certified in teaching Japanese and social sciences (e.g., history, government, business, etc.), for instance, makes them more marketable for teaching jobs. On successful completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to engage at an Independent level of Japanese. JET alumni are encouraged to pursue teacher certifications in other subject areas in addition to Japanese. Students who successfully complete this course will typically achieve a level of proficiency roughly equivalent to JLPT N1 to N2, depending on their performance and degree of engagement. Develop an enhanced appreciation of texts in their relevant social, intellectual, and cultural contexts.Demonstrate a sophisticated socio-cultural awareness of the issues which arise from the cultural and linguistic differences between Japanese and English.Translate the text in hand with an advanced level of competence in using general and technical language with the use of a dictionary.Translate original Japanese and English texts from a range of fields and genres, such as literary, economic, political, technical, and current affairs.Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to: The aim of the course is to develop Japanese to English translation skills, to develop an awareness of the issues which arise from the cultural and linguistic differences between Japanese and English, and to familiarise students with key themes in translation theory.
